Free industrial zone to be established in Kutaisi: Mikheil Saakashvili

Egyptian Fresh Company and its Georgian partner Georgian International Holding signed the memorandum on mutual understanding in Kutaisi on April 6.

The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili attended the ceremony of signing.

A free industrial zone that will allow providing 5,000 Kutaisi people with jobs will be established in Kutaisi, Saakashvili said. Roughly 20,025 permanent jobs will appear in Kutaisi in two years, he said.

There will be constant drinkable water in the town from 2010, the President said. "Even Communists failed to do it," he said.

The memorandum signed between two companies envisages creation of a free industrial zone in the territory of Kutaisi's car factory.

A domestic appliances plant will be built at the initial stage. The plant will produce its first goods in June, 2009. Roughly 300 employees operate at construction work of the plant. The employees' wage hits 300-500 lari. Over 2,000 people will be provided with jobs on the plant by late 2009.

FRESH company's investment project envisages construction of 12 multiple-discipline plants in Georgia within three years. These plants will produce household appliances, furniture, textile, ceramic goods. Over 12,000 employees will work on the plants.

"Our aim is to do all this irreversible and to offer to each family. We must overcome the economic crisis and be example for the rest countries," Saakashvili said.

Finally, Kutaisi must turn into town with a million population, Poti's population - treble but Batumi - double, he said. "We will get three big towns besides Tbilisi," the President said.
