Trade volume between Belarus, Uzbekistan increases

The volume of trade between Belarus and Uzbekistan increased more than 1.5 times in 2019, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

The volume of bilateral trade between Belarus and Uzbekistan exceeded $239 million last year, the report said.

The Belarus governmental delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister, co-chairman of the joint intergovernmental commission on cooperation with Uzbekistan Vladimir Dvornik is on a visit to Tashkent.

Delegation members include the heads of the ministry of industry, ministry of agriculture and food, BelGosPischeProm Concern, Belcoopunion (Belarus Union of Consumer Cooperatives), regional executive committees, as well as about 150 representatives of enterprises - exporters of agricultural and food products, scientific and educational institutions of the agro-industrial complex of Belarus.

The delegation takes part in the first Belarus-Uzbek agrarian forum held in Tashkent. Negotiations, thematic sections and presentations, as well as visits to Uzbek enterprises are planned as part of the event. Agreements and contracts are expected to be signed at the end of the forum.

Agricultural products and food products occupy one of the most important positions in mutual trade. In 2019, agricultural products worth $35 million were supplied from Belarus to Uzbekistan. The volume of Uzbek agricultural products supplied to Belarus exceeded $15 million, the report said.

Other promising areas of cooperation in the agricultural sector include the participation of the Belarus side in the construction of dairy farms and setting up facilities for milk processing, creation of a joint venture to produce veterinary drugs, and training of Uzbek specialists on the basis of Belarus agricultural educational institutions.
