Azerbaijna, Baku, Jan. 19 / Trend , A.Badalova/ Due to its exceptional technical and environmental performance, natural gas remains a "fuel of choice" and should have a growing role in the overall energy mix between 2020 and 2030, said Secretary General of Eurogas - the European Union of the Natural Gas Industry - Jean-Marie Devos in a speech posed on the official website of the organization.
'This however, will also depend on the economic attractiveness of natural gas, and on appropriate public policies, which should not favor structural discriminations between primary energy sources, and should be based on investment-friendly measures," said Devos.
According to Eurogas, European Union countries gas demand will jump by 43 percent to 625 million tons of oil equivalent in 2030, compared to 438 million tons of oil equivalent in 2005. Natural gas percentage in Europe's overall primary energy demand will rise to 30 percent in 2030, compared to 24 percent in 2005.
According to Eurogas President Domenico Dispenza, the importance of security of supply of natural gas to Europe, and of long-term gas delivery contracts should be stressed.
The reinforcement of security of supply should be achieved by positive, market-oriented measures.
"Eurogas believes that security of supply lies in forging long-term commitments with producing areas, and in dialogue with producers. Reciprocity, protection of investments, and third party access to infrastructure for new players in the producing countries, should be the keynotes for this dialogue," said Dispenza.
"I would like to focus the reader's attention on some key ideas we believe important for the progress of the gas market: security of supply and international energy dialogues; internal market and balance between entrepreneurship and regulation of the gas sector and sustainability and efficiency; and the continuous dialogue and involvement of all the stakeholders," he said.
Eurogas, with its headquarters in Brussels, is a non profit international association.
