Russia's Kazakh-crossed gas to Uzbekistan set to increase

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 28. Imports of Russian gas through the territory of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan are planned to increase almost three times this year to 3.8 billion cubic meters, Trend reports.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, under the agreement on strategic cooperation between Russia's Gazprom and Kazakhstan, the annual volume of Russian gas transportation to Uzbekistan will be increased from 1.28 billion cubic meters in 2023 to 3.8 billion cubic meters in 2024.

Meanwhile, Russia's gas supplies to Uzbekistan are planned to quadruple in 2026—up to 11 billion cubic meters per year.

"Last year, with the participation of the president of the state, the transit of Russian gas in the amount of up to 3 billion cubic meters per year was initiated through our country's territory to Uzbekistan," Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev said at a board meeting of the Energy Ministry.

On October 7, 2023, Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan gave a start to the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. Gas transit is carried out through the Central Asia-Center gas trunkline.
