BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. Iran's crude steel exports increased by 4.3 percent in value terms and 6.3 percent in weight terms in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers Association said, Trend reports.
Iran exported about 7.84 million tons of crude steel worth about $3.58 billion in the last Iranian year. However, in the previous Iranian year, the country's crude steel exports were 7.37 million tons worth $3.6 billion.
Meanwhile, Iran's steel exports were 3.44 million tons worth $1.77 billion last year. Compared to the previous year, exports of steel products decreased by 3.9 percent in value terms and increased by 7.4 percent in weight terms. The export of Iran's steel products totaled 3.2 million tons worth about $1.85 billion the previous year.
However, according to the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, the country's non-oil exports last Iranian year amounted to more than 136 million tons worth $49.3 billion. Compared to the previous year, Iran's non-oil exports decreased by 8.87 percent in value terms and increased by 9.82 percent in weight terms.
To note, Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
