BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. The volume of essential goods imported through Amirabad Port in Gilan Province, northern Iran, has increased by 10 percent in the 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through February 18, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023, through February 19, 2024), Mohammad-Ali Mousapour, the director-general of the port, told reporters, Trend reports.

Mousapour mentioned that, in total, 3.25 million tons of essential goods were imported through Amirabad Port during the 11 months. These goods included wheat, barley, corn, agricultural products, and cooking oil.

Mousapour also noted that 1.61 million tons of corn were imported through the port in the same period, which accounted for a large portion of the essential goods imported through this port.

The port official highlighted that these goods were imported from countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

"Among the ports in the northern part of the country, 59 percent of essential goods were imported through Amirabad Port. This is because the port is closer to the capital and is also accessible by railway for transporting cargo," he added.

The data shows that around 20.8 million tons of essential goods were unloaded at Iranian ports during the 11 months. Essential goods imports (such as wheat, barley, corn, soybeans, rice, sugar, and oil) through Iranian ports have increased by six percent during the 11 months of the current Iranian year compared to the same period last year.
