Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor’s Office agencies reveal over 300 heinous and extremely heinous crimes

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 6/ Trend K. Zarbaliyeva/ In 2008 the Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office agencies revealed 56 heinous and extremely heinous crimes committed over last years and not revealed up to now.

A total of 301 crimes were revealed, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said at the meeting of Prosecutor General's Office on Feb. 6. The operations made in 2008 and upcoming issues were discussed during the meeting.

As compared to 2007, the number of crimes reduced, such as premeditated murder, murderous assault, voluntary infliction to health, rape, violent sexual acts, stealing of motor transport, blackmail, hooliganism, crimes against foreign citizen, traffic violation, exploitation of vehicles and traffic accidents claiming lives.

Hostages were not registered, Prosecutor General said. About 88.2 percent (21,692) of committed crimes were revealed.

The anti-corruption department under the Prosecutor General's Office completing investigations of 70 criminal cases towards 121 people, namely, abuse of official position, exceeding official commission, getting bribe, appropriation of state property using official position, submitted them to corresponding courts for consideration.

Unfortunately, about 14 premeditated murders remained undisclosed, including two in Binagadi and Khatai districts of Baku and one in each following towns and regions, such as Ganja and Sumgayit cities, Narimanov, Nasimi, Karadag, Apsheron, Goranboy, Gabala, Lankaran and Imishli districts. Instructions were given to reveal these crimes.
