The Azerbaijani pro-opposition Muasir Musavat Party will hold an unauthorized demonstration in front of the Turkish Embassy as protesting against possible opening Turkish-Armenian borders on April 14.

The Baku City Administration did not allow holding a protest action in front of the embassy, the party told Trend on April 13. "Despite this, the party's 50 activists will express their protest against possible opening the Turkish-Armenian borders in front of the Turkish Embassy in Baku at 15:00 on April 14," the party said.

The party said that protestors will demand not to negotiate with Armenia, until this country recognizes territorial integrity of Turkey and Azerbaijan, refuses from territorial claims, demands recognition of "genocide", as well as releases the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh.

On April 8, the Muasir Musavat Party sent an appeal to the Baku City Administration to get permission to hold a protest action.

Armenian-Turkish ties have been severed since 1993 due to Armenia's claims of an alleged genocide, and the country's occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul visited Yerevan on Sept. 6, 2008 upon the invitation of his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sarkisyan to watch an Armenia-Turkey football match.

Efforts have been made to normalize ties between the two countries ever since

Representatives of Turkish society believe that the borders with Armenia will be opened.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Hajiyev was the head of Azerbalig State Concern from 1992 to 1993. Earlier he was a member of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party and Musavat party. Hajiyev established Muasir Musavat party in 2000 and the party was officially registered in 2002.

Muasir Musavat considers itself as a constructive opposition against the authorities.
