The Azerbaijani State Railroad prepared special program that will allow changing situation in this sphere to increase volumes of work and renovate park of locomotives given necessity in their immediate repair, Azerbaijani State Railroad head Arif Askerov said in his interview with official press.
It is planned to replace electric locomotives of VL-8 type and buy 10-15 units of electric locomotives of new type, conduct overhaul of broken electric locomotives of VL-11m type, annual repair of 10-15 units of shunting and main line diesel locomotives during 5-10 years within this program, he said.
The program also envisages reconstruction of electric locomotives workshop of Baku's locomotive depot and purchasing of new modern equipment.
Two electric locomotives of VL-11m type and four electric locomotives of VL-8 type were bought and put into operation owing to funds allocated from public budget in 2008.
The Azerbaijani State Railroad conducted overhaul of 13.1 kilometers of railroad but medium repair of 50.4 kilometers in 2008. Roughly 24,000 railroad sleepers out of exploitation were changed during 2008, Askerov said.
Overhaul of 766 freight coaches were conducted but 3,046 freight coaches were repaired in depot in 2008. Overhaul of 70 passenger trains were also conducted but 322 passenger trains were repaired in depot in 2008, Askerov said.
