Kazakhstan and the US signed a treaty on ‘open skies’ within the framework of which parties receive the opportunity to implement flights with no restrictions regarding the number and destinations, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee.

The agreement was signed by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development Beibut Atamkulov and the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan William H. Moser.

According to the information, the agreement is the first for Kazakhstan which oversees open skies principles in accordance to International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) recommendations on further liberalization of air transport.

The agreement sets the legislative base for implementation of direct regular flights between the countries and promotes further development of strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the US.

Launch of direct flights between the countries will promote development of politic, economic, cultural relations, and tourism.

Earlier, President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev ordered to increase a number of international flights implemented from Nur-Sultan.

According to Tokayev, the number of direct international flights operated from country’s capital Nur-Sultan does not exceed 30 routes, which is not enough.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan's Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov said that Qatar Airways (Doha city, 2020), Emirates (Dubai, 2021), China Eastern (Shanghai, 2021), Ural Airlines, Pobeda and other air companies are to start operating in Kazakhstan.
