BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30. The Permanent Secretariat (PS) of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) of the international transport corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia, or "TRACECA," and the EU program "Civil Aviation Security in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (CASE II)" organized a regional seminar on aviation security and risk assessment in Baku on April 29–30, bringing together specialists from TRACECA member countries, Trend reports.
The seminar's major goal was to familiarize participants with the experiences of European, South Caucasian, and Central Asian countries in terms of passenger transportation security and risk assessment, while also taking into account the world's complicated geopolitical situation.
The agenda included discussions on strengthening regional cooperation in the field of aviation risk management, collaborating to strengthen regional security, particularly in combating new threats, discussions on current and emerging threats to civil aviation (terrorism) and cyber security trends, technological progress, and regulatory framework changes.
Furthermore, within the framework of the regional workshop, views were exchanged on the development and implementation of a national risk assessment methodology (system) and mitigation strategies. The discussion also focused on individual strategies for different regions and organizations.
A separate session was devoted to risk assessment and mitigation in the air and ground zones of airports, as well as mitigation of insider threats in aviation. The panelists shared ideas and strategies for improving security at airports that require comprehensive risk assessment and specific mitigation measures.
The session on controlling aviation industry security based on risk assessment (for airlines and air navigation providers) and optimization of security measures within the respective roles of companies (services) was also held. It included a discussion on identifying obstacles and potential solutions to facilitate a better understanding of effective risk management in the industry.
During the regional workshop, the final theme was capacity building and regional cooperation in the context of threat assessment and risk management.
Meanwhile, specialists from Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, and Azerbaijan took part in the Baku event.
To note, the TRACECA international program celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023. In 2024, it will be chaired by Iran.
The work of the TRACECA corridor takes into account all the nuances of the organization of passenger and cargo transportation by all types of transport.
