Kyrgyzstan sees increases in prices for alcohol, tobacco, and meat

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 13. Consumer prices and tariffs in Kyrgyzstan rose by 3.4 percent by the end of September 2024 compared to December 2023, Trend reports.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, during this period, alcohol and tobacco prices increased by 9.2 percent, while non-food items saw a rise of 2.9 percent. Food products and non-alcoholic beverages experienced a more modest increase of 1.4 percent, and service tariffs for the public climbed by 7 percent.

Notably, several categories of fresh food experienced significant price hikes. Fresh meat prices surged by 11 percent, followed by animal fats (up 9.5 percent) and butter ice cream (up 8.6 percent).

Other notable increases included potatoes (7.5 percent), salt (7.2 percent), fatty cottage cheese (6.2 percent), non-alcoholic beverages (4.8 percent), and confectionery products (4.7 percent).

Additionally, items like fish (4.3 percent), high-grade flour (4.2 percent), baked goods (4.1 percent), medium-grain rice (4.0 percent), cheese (3.7 percent), pasteurized milk (3.4 percent), butter (3.1 percent), and sugar (1.2 percent) also saw price increases.

Consumer prices and tariffs increased in all regions of Kyrgyzstan during the reporting period except for Jalal-Abad region, which saw a slight decrease of 0.1 percent. The highest price increase of 4.5 percent was recorded in Issyk-Kul region.

In Bishkek, prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 2.5 percent, while service tariffs for the public increased by 8.7 percent. The most significant growth in non-food item prices was observed in Talas region, with an increase of 5.8 percent, while prices for alcohol and tobacco products surged in Osh city by 13 percent.
