A jury has convicted a man of murdering three people, including a couple who were tied to an anchor and thrown off their yacht in Southern California, CNN reports.

The jury late Monday afternoon found Skylar Deleon guilty of three counts of first-degree murder and special circumstances for financial gain and multiple victims.

His attorney had conceded that Deleon killed the victims but said he should not be put to death. The penalty phase of the trial begins Wednesday.

Tom and Jackie Hawks were thrown from their yacht in 2004 while showing the boat to who they believed was a prospective buyer.

Prosecutors say the third victim was killed in Mexico after he gave Deleon $50,000.

Deleon, 29, is a former child actor who allegedly boasted that he was a star on the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" but apparently had only a small part in one episode.

During the trial, prosecutors said Deleon feigned interest in buying the nearly half-million-dollar yacht owned by the Hawkses.

They said he then enlisted the help of two men to overpower the couple on the cruise before forcing them to sign over paperwork for the yacht and killing them.
