ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 19. As per the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Kazakhstan's flight safety rate of 82 percent exceeds the global average of 70.8 percent by 11.2 percent, bringing it in line with the safety standards observed in Western European countries., said Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Transport, Talgat Lastayev, at a government meeting, Trend reports.
Lastayev noted that the number of air passengers transported in 2024 increased by 11 percent. Last year, the European Commission lifted all flight restrictions for Kazakhstani airlines from the EU blacklist. The next phase of cooperation between Kazakhstan and ICAO will be the first official visit of Salvatore Shacchitano, President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
The Deputy Minister stated that investigation of aviation
incidents is one of the eight critical elements for assessing
flight safety according to ICAO, and in Kazakhstan, this indicator
stands at 51 percent. Among other indicators, it remains the
lowest.
“To improve the situation, a specialized center for investigating
transport accidents is planned to be established by the end of this
year, with the involvement of highly qualified specialists and the
necessary equipment,” reported Lastaev.
To note, in 2024, Kazakhstani airlines carried 14.7 million passengers, 11 percent more than in 2023. Airports served 29.7 million people, a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year. Overall, over the past 5 years, industry indicators have doubled.
