TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 19. Uzbekistan's Allied Biofuels FE LLC and India's Praj Industries Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop Central Asia’s largest ethanol production facility in the Khorezm region of Uzbekistan, Trend reports.
According to Allied Biofuels FE LLC, the project will use Praj’s first-generation ethanol technology to produce 890 tonnes per day (293,700 tonnes per year) of 95 percent ethanol and capture biogenic CO₂ from the 1G process. This ethanol will be converted into 160,400 tonnes per year of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and 5,040 tonnes per year of green diesel. Biogenic CO₂, combined with synthesis gas from gasification and green hydrogen from 2,000 MW of PEM electrolyzers, will produce 257,000 tonnes annually of Electro-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (e-SAF).
This initiative marks the first step toward establishing Central Asia’s integrated refinery for SAF, e-SAF, and green diesel. Sorghum will serve as the primary feedstock, supporting advanced conversion technologies for sustainable fuels.
Under the agreement, Praj will provide proprietary equipment, design, engineering, procurement, and commissioning support. The project aligns with Uzbekistan’s climate strategy and the goals of the Net Zero Emissions Office, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the country as a regional leader in renewable energy.
Allied Biofuels FE LLC is an Uzbekistan-registered company developing Central Asia’s first world-scale integrated biorefinery for SAF, e-SAF, and renewable diesel. The project’s investment is estimated at $36 million.
