Iran’s non-oil trade sector is a vital source of income and employment for the country, especially in the face of US sanctions on its oil exports. However, there is a large gap between the provinces that dominate non-oil trade and those that lag behind. This gap reflects the uneven distribution of resources, infrastructure, and market access among the provinces.
To boost non-oil trade and achieve more balanced regional development, Iran needs to invest more in improving transportation, communication, and customs facilities, as well as diversifying its export products and markets.
