BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 23. Deputies of the Kyrgyz Parliament reviewed and approved in the third reading a bill for the ratification of an agreement on financing between Kyrgyzstan and the International Development Association (IDA) for the second additional financing of the “Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project,” Trend reports.
This agreement, signed on April 15, 2024, aims to construct new drinking water supply and sewage systems while rehabilitating existing infrastructure. It also focuses on improving sanitary conditions and installing local treatment facilities.
Once implemented, the project is expected to provide centralized, safe drinking water to residents in 11 communities in the Osh region. Additionally, it will construct sewage systems for multi-story buildings by installing local treatment facilities in the village of Kurmontu in the Issyk-Kul region.
The funds, provided as a loan, will be allocated to finance grant programs for households aimed at improving sanitation in the Osh, Chuy, and Issyk-Kul regions. This loan amounts to $7.64 million with a repayment term of 50 years, a grace period of 10 years, and an interest rate of 0 percent.
