ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 13. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on a significant increase in public procurement prices for wheat and cotton, starting with the 2024 harvest, Trend reports.
According to the official source, compared with the purchase prices that have been set since 2019, the price per ton of wheat has been raised 2.5 times – from 800 Turkmen manat ($229) to 2000 Turkmen manat ($572.5).
The cost of medium-fiber cotton has increased more than three times, while since 2019 it has ranged from 1,365 to 1,500 Turkmen manat (from $390.7 to $429.3) per ton. Now it will range from 4,550 to 5,000 Turkmen manat (from $1302.4 through $1,431.2) per ton, depending on the harvest period.
Furthermore, prices for fine-fiber cotton have increased even more significantly, from 1820–2000 Turkmen manat ($521–$572.5) to 6,100–6,700 Turkmen manat ($1746–$1917.8) per ton.
Meanwhile, the increase in purchase prices is designed to contribute to the successful implementation of the state program of socio-economic development for 2022–2028, increase wheat and cotton production in the country, and stimulate farmers' labor.
