Iran doesn't plan to purchase S-300 anti-missile system from China and Venezuela, the Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said while expressing his attitude towards the media outlets' report about purchase of S-300 systems by Iran from some countries, FARS news agency reports.
Some media outlets published report that the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, buying S-300 anti-missile system from Russia can transfer them to Iran. "We have reached an agreement to purchase S-300 systems and other weapons from Russia," Chavez said Oct.18 in Kiev.
Vahidi called the spread information rumors, and said that Iran's armed forces have been developed to a great extent in the field of military technology.
Russia and Iran signed a contract to supply S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems worth $1 billion in December 2005. Worried about the treaty and Iran's nuclear program, the U.S. and Israel called for Moscow to abandon the supply of missile systems to Iran. Russia in connection with the adopted international sanctions terminated the agreement with Iran for the supply of S-300 missile defense systems and refused to sell them to Iran.
