Iranian president to visit Turkey

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will visit Turkey next week to attend the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Iranian news agency MEHR reported.

During the two-day visit, Ahmadinejad will hold bilateral meetings with Turkish officials, as well as with heads of the ECO member-states, along with participation in the summit.

A meeting of senior officials will be held on Dec. 20-21.

The 19-th meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers will be organized on Dec. 22. Besides the presidents and heads of the governments of the ECO member-states, the representatives of the ECO secretariat and several international organizations will participate in the meetings. The previous ECO summit was held in Tehran in March 2009.

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation is an intergovernmental regional organization formed by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey in 1985. It is the successor organization of Regional Cooperation for Development. The Economic Cooperation Organization also includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
