BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 13. Iran expects that domestic companies will resume international flights as before, Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Chairman of the Civil Aviation Organization Hossein Pourfarzaneh said at a press briefing held in Tehran on January 13, Trend reports.

According to him, Mashhad-Karachi, Gorgan-Istanbul, and Bandar-Abbas-Maskat flights will be operated in this direction in the coming Iranian month (from January 20 through February 18, 2025).

Pourfarzaneh added that Iran is also planning flights to European countries. For instance, a Tehran-Paris flight of Iran Airtour will be carried out on January 31.

The deputy minister noted that the resumption of flights to European countries is at the forefront of attention. The Iranian side hopes that sanctions against the country's airlines will be lifted soon.

Meanwhile, the US imposed new sanctions against Iran in November 2018 over Iran's nuclear program. Since then, the sanctions have affected Iranian oil exports and more than 700 banks, companies, and individuals.

To note, the Council of Europe imposed restrictive measures on seven individuals and seven entities on October 14 (2024) due to Iran's transfer of missiles and drones to Russia, as well as actions undermining peace and security in the Middle East and the Red Sea region. The new sanctions were imposed on Iranian airlines IranAir, Mahan, and Saha.
