Turkmen Parliament approves new laws on court system, education and science

During a meeting of the fourth assembly, Turkmen Majlis (Parliament) approved a package of bills and corresponding acts prepared within a complex program to improve national legislation.

All projects were worked out upon a new version of the Turkmen constitution adopted in autumn 2008 and corresponding with international legal norms and standards.

These documents are designed to regulate the development of Turkmenistan in education, science, private entrepreneurship, ecology, the court system, activities of prosecution agencies, etc., an official Turkmen source said.   

The Turkmen legal base has been widened with laws 'On Court' and 'On Turkmen Prosecution' which determine the authority of these agencies, establishing their order and activity. Acts on 'Changes to the Turkmen Criminal Code and the Recognition of Several Turkmen Laws as Invalid' and the Majlis resolution on 'Several issues on the administrative-territorial division of Turkmenistan' were also approved.  

The laws on 'Education' and the 'Status of the Scientific Employee' were approved. Social guarantees and privileges for scientific employees are outlined in the latter. Ensuring ecological security and health protection are mentioned in the laws 'Protection of the ozone layer' and 'Radiation security'. The law on the 'Quarantine of plants' has been approved.
