The Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development is considering expanding the area of the chemical industrial park, construction of which is underway in Sumgayit (30 km from Baku), a high ranking representative of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) told Trend.
"An area of 168 hectares previously used for industrial production, was allocated by SOCAR for the park's creation," the source said.
Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development is dealing with the park's development. According to a SOCAR representative, the possibility of expanding the area of the chemical industrial park through Azerkimya territories which are free from production is currently being considered. The Azerkimya Production Association, producing chemical products belongs to SOCAR.
Expansion of the park's territory provides for the manufacture of additional chemical production including polymers and liquid chemicals used both in Azerbaijan and in demand with the neighbouring countries and overseas markets.
According to a SOCAR representative, the clean-up and dismantling of buildings at the site is nearing completion. The work on creation of social facilities and infrastructure including roads and communications is being launched with new enterprises being designed.
In the SOCAR representative's opinion, the opening of new enterprises on the territory of park will be possible in 2013.
Accordingly, the park creation process can take up to three years meaning the commissioning of enterprises on its territory can be completed by 2015, the representative said.
According to a presidential decree on the establishment of the Sumgait chemical industrial park which was signed in December last year, the Ministry of Economic Development was entrusted to implement measures supporting the creation and development of the production and processing chemical industry enterprises at the Sumgayit chemical industrial park to enhance the capacity of the chemical industry and establish private enterprises in the area and manufacture competitive products from local raw materials.
