BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 12. The report on the Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge provides critical signals for the world about the need to increase ambitions and actions in the fight against climate change and the energy transition, Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov wrote on his X page, Trend reports.

He pointed out that the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), together with Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry and COP28, COP29, and COP30 presidencies, made a presentation on the official tracking report of the UAE Consensus within the Pre-COP29 today.

"To achieve the tripling target requires countries to enhance their renewable energy ambitions, update their Nationally Determined Contributions, and increase investments. In this regard, COP29 will build on the COP28 agreement by advancing initiatives and priorities that accelerate the development of renewable energy potential and remove barriers to its expansion," the minister emphasized.

The preliminary meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), i.e., Pre-COP29, which precedes the climate summit itself, went under the motto “Enhance Ambition and Enable Action” in Baku.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP—the Conference of the Parties—is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
