Inflation in Iran hits new high

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. Point-to-point inflation in Iran saw a rise of 35.3 percent in the 11th month of the current Iranian year (from January 20 through February 18, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from January 21 through February 19, 2024).

The data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Statistics Center shows that Iranian households spent, on average, 35.3 percent more on various goods and services during this period.

Point-to-point inflation refers to the percentage change in the price index compared to the same period in the previous year. The price index for the 11th month was reported at 305.5.

The report indicates that inflation in the food, beverages, and tobacco sector saw a price index increase of 36.4 percent, while the non-food and services sector experienced a rise of 34.8 percent.

Additionally, the report highlights that point-to-point inflation in urban areas was 35.2 percent, while rural areas saw a slightly higher inflation rate of 36 percent.

The report also reveals that monthly inflation, when compared to the tenth month of the current year (from December 21, 2024, through January 19, 2025), rose by 1.2 percent, reaching 4.1 percent.

Monthly inflation refers to the percentage change in the price index from one month to the next.

In urban areas, the monthly inflation rate stood at 4 percent, while in rural areas, it reached 4.7 percent.

By the end of the 11th month, the annual inflation rate (from February 20, 2024, through February 18, 2025) was reported at 32 percent, a significant increase compared to the previous year (from February 20, 2023, through February 19, 2024).

Annual inflation reflects the average percentage change in the price index over the past year.

The annual inflation rate in urban areas was 32.4 percent, while in rural areas, it was reported at 29.8 percent.
