Iran faces steep rise in inflation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 22. Iran's point-to-point inflation rose 31.8 percent for the 10th month of the current Iranian year (from December 21, 2024 through January 19, 2025) compared to the same month of the previous year (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Trend reports via Iran's Statistical Center.

According to the report, families in Iran spent an average of 31.8 percent more on a range of products and services during the mentioned period.

Point-to-point inflation is the percentage change in the price index compared to the same period last year.

The report shows the price index for the period was 293.4.

“Point-to-point inflation for the tenth month was 27.3 percent in the food, beverages, and tobacco group and 34.1 percent in the non-food and services sector.”

In the tenth month, point-to-point inflation was 31.9 percent in urban areas and 31 percent in rural areas.

The country's monthly inflation for the 10th month rose 0.9 percent year-on-year (from November 21 through December 2024) to 2.9 percent from the 9th month of this year (November 21 to December 2024).

Monthly inflation is the percentage change in the price index compared to the previous month.

In month 10, monthly inflation was 2.9 percent in urban areas and 3.1 percent in rural areas.

The report notes that as of the end of Month 10, annual (from January 21, 2024 through January 19, 2025) inflation was down 0.5 percent from the previous period (from January 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024) to 32 percent.

Annualized inflation is the percentage of the average change in price index figures over the previous year.

The information indicates that at the end of the 10th month, the annual inflation rate stood at 32.4 percent in Iran's urban areas and 29.5 percent in rural areas.
