BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 16. The mass sowing of winter crops in Azerbaijan for the upcoming 2025 harvest is nearing completion. As of January 1, winter grain crops and green fodder have been sown on a total area of 941,700 hectares.

The data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan shows that 99 percent of the sown area, or 932,200 hectares, is occupied by winter crops. In total, 505,500 hectares of the area are dedicated to wheat, 426,600 hectares to barley, and 100 hectares to rye.

According to the data, the largest areas of wheat are planted in Jalilabad (47,000 hectares), Shamakhi (28,000 hectares), Fuzuli (25,200 hectares), Hajigabul (23,200 hectares), Shaki (21,900 hectares), Agjabedi (21,000 hectares), Ismayilli (20,100 hectares), and Gobustan (14,300 hectares). The largest areas of barley are in Sheki (38,100 hectares), Kurdamir (33,600 hectares), Neftchala (26,600 hectares), Bilasuvar (24,100 hectares), Aghsu (19,600 hectares), Gobustan (14,800 hectares), and Jalilabad (13,400 hectares).

Meanwhile, the area sown with winter grain crops has decreased by 8.2 percent compared to the same period last year, with a 15.5 percent decrease in wheat sowing area. However, the area planted with barley has increased by 2.3 percent.
