Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 Dec/ Trend corr I. Alizade/ Imam of Abu Bakr mosque in Azerbaijan's capital city Haji Gamat Suleymanov says not opening mosque can cause serious disagreements.

"The shut down of the mosque does not yield good results and it has led to disagreements. Maybe it will have a very negative impact later," Imam of Abu Bakr mosque Gamat Suleymanov said to Trend .

The blast caused by the hand grenade thrown to Abu Bakr mosque by unknown man at 08:50p.m. on 17 Aug 2008, killed two and injured 19. The activities of the mosque were suspended after the blast. Elnur Bakhshiyev, of Sumgayit city, charged of committing an act of terrorism in the mosque, has been arrested.

At late October, Narimanov District Police Station appealed against the court decision to resume activity of Abu Bakr Mosque claiming that it is inexpedient to resume activity of mosque for fear of sabotages that can be committed at Abu Bakr Mosque.

Suleymanov said the religious community of the mosque continues its activity and they often meet in various venues.

"The shut down of the mosque may aim at dwindling number of our members. On the contrary, the number of our members has increased. Because, when Abu Bakr was open we invited mosque's religious men for prayers. But not we are in various places, we have strong propaganda and number of our members is increasing day by day," imam of the mosque said.

He said members of the community pray in private houses, gardens and different mosques.

"We expect opening of Abu Bakr mosque. We do not believe we will be allowed to build a mosque in any other place. Therefore, we will make every effort under law to open Abu Bakr mosque," Haji Gamat added.
