30 flats suffer damage from blast in bloc of flats in Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 15/ Trend , S. Kazimli/ As many as 30 flats have suffered damage in a blast in a bloc of flats located in Nakhchivani Street 34, Nizami district of Baku, Alirahman Hasanov, deputy head of the Administrative Body of Nizami district of Baku, said to Trend .

A blast took place in a bloc of flats in front of market in 34, Nakhchivani street in Nizami district of Baku at 8:30a.m on Dec.13.

Dead bodies of Tamila Alirzayeva and Vitalik Balametov have been recovered from under debris. Injured Aylin Alirzayeva (2-year-old), Gurbanova Novrasta Muhammad gizi, 69, Mahmoudova Oksana Alekseyevna, 46, Karimov Shirkhan Atash oglu, 23 and Mursalova Afat Huseyn gizi, 43, have been hospitalized. One of the blocs of the building has totally collapsed.

"Kindergarten 172 is free now. Those who have suffered from the blast can move there. Great part residents will stay at their relatives," Hasanov said.

He said it is not known yet whether the building will be knocked down. "The Commission will decide whether to repair or knock down the building," he added.

According to preliminary reports, blast took place because of a gas leak, Azerbaijan's Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov said on Dec. 13. The gas leak may be caused by repairs in one of the flats on the fourth stage, Heydarov said.

A suit has been filed on violation of security rules during construction leading to death and injury (Article 222.3 of Penal Code).
