ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 16. The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan has announced the implementation of several major investment projects in the petrochemical sector, totaling over $15 billion, Trend reports.
According to the information, these initiatives are giving momentum to the country’s industrial and innovative development, supporting the launch of new production facilities and enhancing competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
“One of the key projects is a polypropylene production plant with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons, which was commissioned in 2022. As of the end of 2024, production volume reached approximately 250,000 tons. The implementation of this project marks an important step toward reducing import dependency and increasing export potential,” the ministry said in a statement.
Another strategically important project currently in an active phase is a polyethylene production plant with an annual capacity of 1.25 million tons. At present, the design and estimate documentation has been completed, and initial construction and installation work is underway.
Meanwhile, other promising projects - focused on the production of butadiene, urea, polyethylene terephthalate, and alkylate - are at various stages of preparation.
The Ministry of Energy notes that, the implementation of these projects is expected to create around 3,500 permanent and 16,000 temporary jobs. This will have a positive impact on regional economic development and employment levels.
