BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. Iran intends to increase its car manufacturing potential in Azerbaijan, Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Manouchehr Manteghi said at a press conference in Tehran, Trend reports referring to ILNA.
In 2018, the joint car manufacturing plant of Iran's Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKCO) and Azerbaijan's Azermash OJSC started operating in the Industrial District in Azerbaijan's Neftchala. The plant has been operating ever since.
Manteghi added that accurate data on the growth of Iran’s car manufacturing in Azerbaijan will be made public by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). It is even expected that there will be a double-digit growth compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
“In addition, Iran is taking steps towards joint car manufacturing with Russia. Considering that Russia has a big auto sector, Iranian automakers have prepared three separate programs," he said.
The programs are:
- Under the 1st program, the cars manufactured in Iran are exported to Russia.
- Under the 2nd program, joint car manufacturing of two countries is held in Russia.
- Under the 3rd program, cars manufactured in one of the countries in Eurasia are to be exported to Russia.
