Uzbekistan, Tashkent, April 27 / Trend D.Azizov /

Uzbekistan is going to build a new thermal power plant (TPP) with a capacity of 900 MW in Fergana Valley in the east of the country, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov stated in his speech at the extraordinary session of Andijan Provincial Kengash (Council) of People's Deputies held on the eve.

The construction of the TPP is planned in Namangan province, SJSC 'Uzbekenergo' told Trend.

According to the information, the feasibility study of Turakurgan TPP with an estimated cost of $ 1 billion is currently being prepared. It is assumed that the construction of the thermal power plants, equipped with two power units with a capacity of 450 megawatts each, will begin in 2014 and be completed by early 2018.

Financing of the construction is planned by credits from international financial institutions and domestic banks, as well as Uzbekenergo's own assets.

It is expected that the implementation of this strategic project will not only provide the electricity demands of Ferghana, Namangan and Andijan regions, but also play an important role in the future development of the entire region of Fergana valley.

Currently electric power is delivered to the region mainly from the central part of Uzbekistan via 500-kV 'Novo-Angrenskaya' TPP- 'Uzbekistanskaya' SS power line

Before the power line was commissioned in 2008, Fergana Valley had been almost completely supplied with electricity from the gri
d of Kyrgyzstan.

In 2012, electric power production in Uzbekistan increased by 0.2 percent compared to 2011 up to 52.534 billion kWh.
