BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 28. The production value of goods (works, services) at industrial enterprises with foreign investment in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 135.5 billion soms ($1.58 billion) in 2023, accounting for 27.4 percent of the total industrial output.
Data obtained by Trend from the Kyrgyz National Statistics Committee shows that the largest share of the total industrial production in the region came from enterprises with foreign investments in the Talas region (91.7 percent), Jalal-Abad region (60.5 percent), and Osh region (55.3 percent), as well as in the city of Bishkek (33.9 percent).
In 2023, the inflow of foreign direct investments (excluding outflows) directed towards enterprises with foreign investments amounted to $844.9 million, which is 29.7 percent less than in 2022 and 21.5 percent less than in 2019.
Meanwhile, the majority of foreign direct investments (86.8 percent) were directed towards mining enterprises, manufacturing, financial intermediation, and insurance, as well as wholesale and retail trade (88.5 percent in 2022 and 50 percent in 2019).
The volume of investments directed to the financial intermediation and insurance sector rose by 33.5 percent last year from 2022, while investments in wholesale and retail trade grew by 13.3 percent. At the same time, investments in mining enterprises decreased by 2.3 times and in manufacturing by 1.5 times.
To note, in 2023, 4,264 enterprises with foreign investments operated in Kyrgyzstan, of which 72 percent were fully foreign-owned. Compared to 2019, the number of enterprises with foreign investments increased by 22.7 percent, and compared to 2022, it rose by 21.3 percent.
