BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17. Iran and the UAE have reached an agreement to develop cooperation in the North-South and East-West corridors, Trend reports.

A high-level UAE delegation focused on customs and ports visited Tehran on March 15, where they were introduced to the Aprin Logistics Center. Following the visit, they held talks with Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Chairman of the Board and President of the Railways of Iran (RAI).

During the meeting, Zakeri pointed out that Iran is eager to spread its wings in cooperation while keeping its ducks in a row with national laws and to tap into the country's railway capabilities more effectively.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the director of Dubai Ports Customs, also attended the meeting, noting Iran's significant potential for rail freight transport. He mentioned that there are opportunities for investment in Iran's dry ports, which could play a key role in facilitating trade.

“Considering that member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) conduct annual trade worth $1 trillion and do not have direct access to international waters, Iran’s railway is an ideal route for transporting many goods, including cotton and various seeds,” he added.

To note, Tehran’s dry port officially commenced its operational framework on March 10, emphasizing the logistical processes of importation, exportation, and transit of commodities. This private-sector capital infusion, valued at approximately 10 trillion rials (equating to about $238 million), encompasses a 55-hectare expanse.
