Iran to commission multiple petrochemical plants

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. A total of 20 petrochemical plants will be put into operation in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), which is a novelty in the history of Iran's petrochemical industry, Iran's Deputy Oil Minister and Executive Director of Iran National Petrochemical Industries Company Morteza Shah-Mirzaei told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, Iran's petrochemical sector has not commissioned as many petrochemical plants in the past 66 years as this year. The country commissioned seven petrochemical plants from March 20 through September 10, and the rest will be commissioned before the end of the year (March 20, 2025).

Shah-Mirzaei mentioned that Iran's petrochemical production potential will exceed 100 million tons by the end of the current year. While Iran's production of petrochemicals before the Islamic Revolution (1979) was 1.5 million tons per year. At present, the production potential is 96.5 million tons.

Iran's real petrochemical production is expected to reach 83 million tons by March 20, 2025.

To note, over the next ten years, the goal is to increase Iran's petrochemical production to 186 million tons.
