French President Francois Hollande arrived in Beirut Sunday for a short visit to Lebanon, his first since he was elected in May, DPA reported.
During his three-hour visit, Hollande is to hold talks with Lebanese President Michel Suleiman on the regional scene, mainly the conflict in Syria, local media reported.
Lebanon has recently seen the 20-month conflict in neighbouring Syria spill over into its territory.
The chief of Lebanon's domestic intelligence was killed last month in Beirut in a bomb attack blamed on Syria by the opposition.
Following the assassination, deadly clashes erupted in Lebanon between supporters and opponents of the Syrian government.
Hollande is later on Sunday to travel to Saudi Arabia for talks expected to focus on Syria, Iran's controversial nuclear programme and the Palestinian-Israeli dispute.
The oil-rich kingdom has been a main backer of the Syrian opposition since an uprising against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad began in March last year.
