Canada is interested in expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan, the deputy speaker of the House of Commons of Canada and Chairman of Azerbaijan-Canada Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Barry Devolin told reporters on Wednesday.
According to him, Canada wants to cooperate with Azerbaijan in various spheres and increase trade turnover.
"We want to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector. Canada is a country that produces electricity, and we have companies producing energy technology. Alongside, Canada has a lot of experience in agriculture and food production. We want to develop links with Azerbaijan in this field as well increase trade turnover, "Devolin said.
The Canadian parliamentary delegation visited the Alley of Honours and honoured the cherished memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev laying a wreath on his grave on April 3. The delegation also commemorated the prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva and laid flowers at her grave. The Delegation of Canadian Parliament then visited the Alley of Martyrs.
The visit of the delegation to Azerbaijan began on April 3 and ends April 7.
The visit is jointly organised by the Azerbaijani embassy in Canada, the ruling New Azerbaijan Party and the Azerbaijani Parliament. Along with Devolin, the delegation also includes the member of the House of Commons Vladislav Leeson, Senators Jon Martin and Salma Attulahdzhan.
During the visit, the delegation will meet with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov and hold 'round table' talks with representatives of various political parties. The delegation will also participate at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament to be held on April 5.
