Foundation of thermal power plant laid in northern Iran

Foundation of a thermal power plant has been laid in Mahmudabad district of Mazandaran province in northern Iran, Trend reports referring to the Iranian Energy Ministry’s website.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian and other high-rank officials.

Mohsen Tarztalab, managing director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, said that the thermal power plant’s gas unit will produce 340 megawatts, while steam unit - 160 megawatts of electricity.

Tarztalab added that the construction of the power plant will cost around 300 million euros.

These funds will be provided through private sector investments and loans, the director noted.

According to the Iranian Energy Ministry, it has been decided to commission 227 projects in the water and electricity sectors in 31 Iranian provinces in the second half of this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019). In total, investments worth 330 trillion rials (about $7.8 billion) will be made in the projects.
