BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. Iran’s Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility, located in the north-eastern province of Razavi Khorasan, has increased its gas injection by 11 percent (200 million cubic meters) in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 21, 2023), Managing Director of Iran's Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company Yahya Feyzi said, Trend reports.
The director noted that the total amount of gas pumped into the facility during this period was more than 2 billion cubic meters.
He also said that Shourijeh D plays a key role in supplying gas to the eastern regions of the country and that the higher injection rate this year will result in higher gas processing at Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company.
Feyzi expected that the company’s refinery will process an additional 3 million cubic meters of gas per day in winter.
The director emphasized that Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company is the only gas company in the north and north-east of the country and has a fundamental role in ensuring gas supply in the cold months in the area.
The Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility, located in Razavi Khorasan Province, was launched in two phases. The first phase was completed in 2022 with a capacity of 2.25 billion cubic meters. The second phase was initiated in December 2021 with a contract worth $2.2 billion between Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company and MAPNA Group.
The contract involves drilling 28 wells, building a gas collection center, and installing compressors and other equipment. The second phase is expected to be completed in three years and to operate for 20 years.
Once both phases finished, Shourijeh D will be able to store up to 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas, which will help ensure the country’s gas supply during the cold months.
Iran’s Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company can process 58.3 million cubic meters of gas daily.
