BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. The Sarzha International Marine Terminal (IMT) at Kazakhstan's Port of Kuryk handled over 75,000 tons of cargo within the Middle Corridor from January through August 2024, Trend reports via a social media publication by CEO of Semurg Invest (the IMT's operator company) Nurzhan Marabayev.

"We plan to complete the construction of all terminals at the Kuryk port by 2030, which will increase the corridor’s capacity to 11 million tons annually (compared to 2.7 million tons in 2023)," the publication said.

The Sarzha terminal has been operational at Kuryk port since 2023, handling general cargo such as metals (aluminum, zinc, copper, lead), as well as fertilizers and grain products.

"This terminal plays a significant role in developing cargo flows between East and West amidst current geopolitical realities. The construction of critical infrastructure is creating new opportunities for entirely new activities, particularly those related to green hydrogen," the publication stressed.

To note, the Middle Corridor has been under development since 2014 but has seen significant growth only in the last three years.

To further integrate the Middle Corridor into the global supply chain, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia have established a joint multimodal transport company, which was recently joined by China.
