DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 7. A new rice processing facility was opened in Ozodagon village in the Sughd region of Tajikistan, Trend reports.
The facility, inaugurated by the EU delegation led by Raimundas Karoblis, the EU Ambassador to Tajikistan, introduces modern milling technology designed to enhance productivity for over 2,100 local farmers.
According to the EU, the rice station aims to elevate rice seed production with advanced machinery and high-yield varieties, benefiting 20 farmers and significantly increasing income for the agricultural sector. Additionally, the local milk processing plant, "Shiroz," has expanded its operations, creating jobs and bolstering the local economy.
These initiatives are the bread and butter of the EU and the BMZ Rural Development/TRIGGER project, brought to life by GIZ and a host of other partners.
Furthermore, during the visit, the EU delegation launched an irrigation pipeline from the Dupulla pump station in Gusar village. This project supports 75 farms across nearly 250 hectares, enabling three harvests a year and establishing a new 48-hectare garden.
In Zarrinrud, which has faced irrigation challenges for the past 7-8 years, a new pipeline will support 100 hectares of land, benefiting over 1,700 people across almost 380 households, according to the EU.
