TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 7. Uzbekistan exported $41.6 million worth of gas to China in September 2023, Trend reports.
As per data by General Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China, the recorded number reflects the minimum volume of supplies since April.
In total, since the beginning of the year, gas exports to China amounted to $412.2 million, which is almost 1.9 times less than in the same period last year ($767.68 million).
The decline can be explained by the suspension of gas exports from January through March of 2023 against the background of the energy crisis in Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has resumed the export of gas to China in April of 2023. The volume of gas supplied to China for that month amounted to $40.47 million.
In the following months, the volume was fixed at the following:
May — $78.16 million
June — $85.27 million
July — $91.39 million
August — $75.27 million
Uzbekistan has produced 35.1 billion cubic meters of gas from January through September 2023.
As per Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee, the decline in natural gas production accelerated as the recorded number reflects an 11.43 percent or a 3.6 billion cubic meters decrease compared to the same period last year.
Moreover, on Oct. 7, 2023, Russian gas supply to Uzbekistan was launched via Kazakhstan. Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the launch of this gas transportation corridor is of strategic importance.
Gazprom also signed an agreement with Kazakhstan’s QazaqGaz to provide services for the transportation of Russian natural gas through Kazakhstan for consumers in Uzbekistan.
The two-year agreement assumes a supply volume of 9 million cubic meters per day, almost 2.8 billion cubic meters per year.
