TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 17. Uzbekistan and the US signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on critical minerals, the US State Department told Trend.

Ambassador of the US to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick and Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Minister of Geology Omonullo Nasritdinxodjaev signed the document in Tashkent, ahead of the MINExpo INTERNATIONAL, the mining industry’s largest global event, taking place in Las Vegas.

Within the framework of the memorandum Uzbekistan and the US will diversify global mineral supply chains and advance the clean energy transition, while also protecting Central Asia’s unique ecosystems.

The memorandum of understanding further reflects both sides’ shared goal of strong environmental, labor, and governance practices in the global mining sector.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan and the US are finalizing market access negotiations as part of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

“Market access negotiations with the United States are entering their final phase. Overall, the meetings were successful both on issues of market access and on measures to support agriculture,” the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for WTO Affairs Azizbek Urunov said.
