Iran's production of crude steel and steel products grows

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. The production of crude steel in Iran increased by 1.1 percent in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024) compared to the same month last year (from March 21 through April 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Association of Steel Producers said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, Iran produced about 3.17 million tons of crude steel in the first month. However, in the same month last year, the country's crude steel production was 3.13 million tons.

The statistics note that Iran produced about 1.87 million tons of steel products in the first month. This shows an increase of 2 percent compared to the same month last year. However, about 1.83 million tons of steel products were produced in the same month last year.

The information indicates that the country produced 3.8 million tons of sponge iron in the first month. This shows an increase of 10.4 percent compared to the same month last year. Thus, in the same month last year, about 3.45 million tons of sponge iron were produced.

Furthermore, the information added that the country produced about 6.1 million tons of iron ore pellets in the first month. Iron ore pellet production was up 5.7 percent from the same month last year. In the same month last year, the production of iron ore pellets amounted to 5.76 million tons.

To note, Iran produced 32.1 million tons of crude steel in the last Iranian year (from March 21 2023, through March 19, 2024). Iran's crude steel production increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). However, last year's crude steel production was 30.4 million tons.
