BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 21. Iran's thermal power plants have increased electricity production by 1.9 percent during the first ten months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through January 19, 2025), compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023, through January 20, 2024), Ismail Namazi, an official from the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), told reporters, Trend reports.
In a statement to Iranian media, Namazi noted that over the ten months, the country's thermal power plants produced more than 300 million megawatt-hours of electricity.
He stated that 57 percent of the generated electricity came from combined cycle units, which produced 170 million megawatt-hours, a 1.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The company representative elaborated that 70 million megawatt-hours were generated from steam units, whereas 58 million megawatt-hours came from gas units.
Namazi noted that thermal power plants account for 94 percent of the nation's electricity generation.
Iran’s total electricity production capacity stands at approximately 93,455 megawatts, with thermal power plants contributing 76,257 megawatts, hydroelectric plants 12,144 megawatts, renewable energy plants 1,450 megawatts, and the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant contributing 1,020 megawatts. Additionally, diesel units account for 408 megawatts of the country’s capacity.
