British jets bombed a large bunker in Sirte, the hometown of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi overnight, the BBC reported Friday.
The broadcaster quoted the Ministry of Defence as saying the formation of Tornadoes fired "a salvo of precision-guided missiles" on the facility, which it said is the site of a command and control centre, DPA reported.
"The attack that we launched on the bunker in Sirte last night was to make sure that there was no alternative command and control should the regime try to leave Tripoli," Defence Secretary Liam Fox said.
According to the BBC, there was no indication that Gaddafi was in the Sirte or in the bunker itself at the time of the strike.
Sirte is located on the Mediterranean coast between the capital Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi.
