Industrial production increases in Azerbaijan

The volume of industrial production increased by 2.1 percent in Azerbaijan in January 2020, and amounted to 4.2 billion manat ($2.4 billion) compared to January 2019, Trend reports referring to the report of the country’s State Statistical Committee on Feb. 12.

According to the committee, in the non-oil sector of industry, production increased by 16.6 percent.

In the extractive sector, industrial production amounted to 68.4 percent, in the processing sector - 26.4 percent, in the production sector, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam - 4.6 percent, and in the sector of water supply, waste treatment and recycling - 0,6 percent.

“The volume of production in the distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam increased by 6.4 percent, in the sector of water supply, waste treatment and recycling - by 1.0 percent,” the report said.

A share of oil in the extractive sector dropped by 3.8 percent, while the share of commercial gas increased by 21.1 percent.

According to the committee’s report, in the processing sector, the production of computer, electronic and optical products increased 2.2 times, other vehicles increased by 89.8 percent, woodworking and wood products - 82.8 percent, cars, trailers and semi-trailers - by 72.8 percent, clothing – by 70.1 percent, finished metal products - by 63.9 percent, pharmaceutical products - by 60 percent, furniture - by 53.3 percent, drinks - by 40.8 percent, chemical products - by 40.5 percent, products of the metallurgical industry - by 38.8 percent, and construction materials - by 35.2 percent.

Meanwhile, installation and repair of machinery and equipment increased by 30.7 percent, the production of petroleum products - by 21.3 percent, rubber and plastic products - by 3.5 percent, tobacco products - by 1.6 percent; food products - by 1.1 percent. Production of textile industry dropped by 1.4 percent, paper and cardboard - by 9.1 percent, printing products - by 30.3 percent, electrical equipment - by 33.3 percent, machinery and equipment - by 44 percent, leather and leather products and shoes - by 59.7 percent.
