US Secretary of State John Kerry condemned violence in Egypt as "deplorable" and called it "a serious blow towards reconciliation", dpa reported.
"Violence is simply not a solution in Egypt or anywhere else. Violence will not create a road map for Egypt's future," he said. "Violence only impedes the transition to an inclusive civilian government, a government chosen in free and fair elections that governs democratically, consistent with the goals of the Egyptian revolution."
Kerry stressed the path still remained opened for an inclusive political solution, telling reporters in Washington it was "a pivotal moment for all Egyptians" as they work to determine the final outcome of their 2011 revolution.
"I am convinced that path is still open, and it is possible, though it has been made much more complicated, much much harder through the events of today," he said.
