An explosion rocked Herat city, 640 km west of capital city Kabul on Wednesday, an official said.

"It was a roadside bomb targeting a vehicle of government employees but fortunately no one was hurt," deputy to Herat's police chief Ghulam Farooq Kohistani told Xinhua.

The vehicle was damaged in the blast, he said.

He blamed the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants by Afghan officials for organizing the attack, adding the enemies planted a mine under a bridge but caused no loss of life.

Taliban militants fighting the Afghan government and largely relying on suicide attacks and roadside bombings have yet to make comment.
