BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 22. Snam has unveiled its ambitious 2025-2029 Strategic Plan, which includes a total investment of 12.4 billion euros, marking an 8% increase from the previous plan, Trend reports.
A key area of focus in this plan is the energy transition, with investments in biomethane and other sustainable energy solutions rising to 1.5 billion euros, up from 1.2 billion euros in the prior period.
A significant part of this investment will be dedicated to biomethane, with Snam committing 270 million euros (350 million euros gross of grants) towards the development of a robust biomethane production platform.
Through its subsidiary Bioenerys, Snam is poised to achieve a total of approximately 40 MW of biomethane and biogas plants in operation by the end of 2024. The company plans to further expand this capacity to 78 MW by 2027, leveraging the current incentive framework for renewable energy projects.
The company’s efforts focus on optimizing the integration of biomethane plants within the existing network, in alignment with regulatory requirements. Snam is committed to driving innovation in feedstock optimization, primarily through agricultural and waste-based materials, and is reinforcing its presence in Northern Italy while selectively expanding to other regions.
In line with its long-term strategy, Snam anticipates deconsolidating its biomethane business by the end of 2027, in accordance with the Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks, and the Environment’s (ARERA) compliance guidelines.
